One-to-one with Jo Müller

Say hi to Jo Müller — the fun and fearless rider from Austria now sending it big in Oman. With a love for wind, adventures and good vibes, Jo is all about community, style, and chasing the next level. Jo shares all about here journey and love for kiting in the interview below.

Discipline: Old School / Big Air

Date of birth: 25/08/1997

Where are you from? Austria

And where are you based now? Oman

How/when did you get into kiting?

I tried it with my Dad when I was 15, he always pushed me to try new sports. We never had enough wind and would practice with 19m kites- and since I played football, volleyball and track & field at the time I didn’t continue kiting. Until I turned 20 and met Paris on the beach kiting, my dad and I continued, and I pushed it as my primary sport from there.

What are your biggest achievements in kiting so far?

I think being sponsored by Harlem Kitesurfing! And being able to ride their latest and best gear on the market. And gaining attention for my kitesurfing journey online via Instagram, being able to inspire others to try the sport or visit my base country, Oman.

Why joining Harlem? What excites you about being part of the Harlem Family?

I love the Harlem family because indeed since day one, it has felt like a real community and family. Everyone keeps in contact with each other and cheers each other on. The Harlem team, Victor, Alex, and co, are always there for you and you truly feel the support! On top of that, the kites are just getting better and better, there’s nothing else like them!

What do you like about the gear set-up?

Everything. I love the Force kites performance, and the fact I can easily adjust my bar from 19 to 24m lines. When I want to practice loops safely going higher, I love to use the 24m lines. With more wind I like to use the 21m lines, so I really enjoy being able to choose. My Launch board is fantastic- great upwind riding and super smooth landings.

What are your goals and aspirations for the future?

I would really love to start competing. I know I need to up my looping game, late backs, kite loop board-offs. I aim to practice all these this summer hopefully!! And to be able to join in on product shoots around the world, and let my insta-audience follow along my journey.

Favourite spot in the world: Bar Al Hikman, Oman

Who inspires you?

Growing up it was always my dad and my two older brothers- anything they were doing, I wanted to do too. This is what molded me into who I am today! Whether it was motorcross, snowboarding, skateboarding, sailing, we were all doing it together. And when kitesurfing came along, before I got into the more advanced riding (I was riding upwind and doing basic jumps), I remember looking up to many of the kite-pros around the world. Hannah Whiteley, Nick Jacobsen, Jesse Richman are just a few of the kiters that I found really inspiring, and still do!

Describe yourself with 3 words:  Friendly, Goofy, Curious

Any curious fact about you that no one knows yet:  My toes are incredibly strong, you don’t want to be toe-pinched! And I absolutely love animals!!
